This chapter is dedicated to Giuseppe Levi, an outstanding personality of the Novecento intelligentsia. It focuses on Levi’s dynamic attitude in the biological investigation and the fertile and lively science of Italian society in the post-Risorgimento period. With his enduring and passionate approach to both research and teaching, with his deep ethical values, and strong international ties, Levi succeeded in keeping Turin science at high standards during the dark period of Fascism and racial persecutions, and leaving an important legacy to his pupils. Some of them made breakthrough discoveries in the fields of neuroscience and molecular biology. |
