Nurse practitioners have become increasing important front-line providers, improving access to care and reducing the cost of services. Existing studies of NPs have found satisfaction, relationships, scope of practice, workload, practice environment, and institutional policies important to understanding turnover. This study contributes via an understanding of differing facets of satisfaction in practices characterized by strict hierarchy or equal relationships with physicians. Findings indicate that patient load, opportunities for development, and organizational policies are important across all organizations. Sense of value for the work was impactful in practices with equal relationships, while autonomy and respect were significant in hierarchical organizations. |
