Popis: In part to recap some of the points that have been made along the way, and in part to recap what insights of enduring philosophical value we might draw from the long story of development, the final chapter puts forward a case for the volitional theory of causation. The discussion argues in support of six distinct points: that reflection upon the experience of passing time shows that we must accept the reality of genuinely efficient causation; that there obtains a felt sense of agency; that this sense of agency cannot be illusory; that volitional causality is best understood in a teleological and holistic fashion; that such volition provides us with the very meaning of what it is to be causal; and that considerations of causal continuity make it reasonable to think that such causality operates, not just in ourselves, but in the universe at large.
