Popis: A long elastic sheet or cable lies horizontally on equally spaced supports. The sheet sags due to its own weight. The problem is governed by the distance between the supports, 2a, and a nondimensional parameter, K, which represents the relative importance of density and length to flexural rigidity. The heavy elastica equations are solved both analytically and numerically. The design parameters, horizontal force, and maximum moment are found to be sensitive to both a and K.
