As part of an inventory of cultural and historical resources from the Cold War in the state of South Carolina, the history and various functions of the Charleston Naval Base is depicted in this volume. The Charleston Naval Base (CNB) complex was the largest and most involved DoD installation surveyed due to the multitude of activities that occurred at three separate locations. The USC Legacy Project conducted two building surveys of the CNB complex, one that focused solely on the base in North Charleston, and another that combined the Naval Weapons Station (NWS) and Polaris Missile Facility, Atlantic (POMFLANT), which are adjoining properties near Goose Creek. The surveys were arranged separately with the help of contacts at the CNB and the NWS. This is Part B of Volume 2 and contains the building survey records for Naval Weapons Station and POMFLANT. |
