Popis: | The main objective of this paper is the preparation of zinc oxide nanosheets using green synthesis method by flaxseed (Linnum usitatissimum) Mucilage. Synthesized nanosheets were characterized using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope, X-ray diffraction, Energy Dispersive X-ray Analysis, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, Thermogravimetric Analysis, and UV–Visible methods and used in photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue in aqueous solution. The effect of photocatalyst used, process time and kinetic investigation, and photocatalyst regeneration was evaluated. The characterization results showed the presence of pure Zinc oxide nanosheets with uniform crystals and an average thickness of about 75 nm. UV spectroscopy study indicated that the photocatalytic absorption spectrum has extended to all ultraviolet and visible regions with good bond energy for dye degradation activity. Kinetic experiments of methylene blue degradation using nanosheets were indicative of a good agreement between Langmuir–Hinshelwood model and it was also seen that the photocatalyst could remove over 80% of methylene blue within 2 h. It was observed that use of flaxseed Mucilage makes a simple, eco-friendly and cost-effective method for the preparation of the zinc oxide nanosheets without using any stabilizer or surfactant agent. |
