‘The domain of virtual reality’ considers some of the broader cultural and philosophical issues that shape our experience in VR. This includes a history of relevant technology that has paved the way for VR and culturally prepared us for VR as a concept. This chapter also introduces some of the central ideas that lead into later discussion on both VR and sound, addressing them from both technological and broader, philosophical perspectives. The central assertion of this chapter is that, to fully understand VR and VR sound, it is important to consider a wide range of associated factors, from changes in global attitudes to the opinions of the individual. |
