For power (25 MW) and particle exhaust in Tore Supra, a Toroidal Pump Limiter (TPL) structure is under development. The elementary elements in front of the plasma, hereafter called fingers are water cooled and form altogether a flat toroidal ring located in the bottom of the machine with one throat on the low field side to collect the particles. The fingers made of hardened copper (CuCrZr) are covered with CFC (Carbon Fibre Composite) tiles. Many calculations and tests were performed in order to demonstrate the feasibility of such a limiter. Sub-scale and scale one fingers were developed, manufactured and tested under cycling heat load in the FE200 electron beam facility (up to 3300 cycles at 10 MW/m2). Insulation of the head of the limiter, pressure drop and water distribution through the different fingers were also tested by means of scale one mock-ups. |
