Popis: Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) use is an emerging public health concern in Asia. Mutual-aid groups are an integral and nearly ubiquitous component of the treatment system for AOD use worldwide, yet studies have been conducted almost exclusively on Western, primarily Caucasian, populations. Understanding the nature and extent of racial or ethnic disparities in the participation of mutual-aid groups for AOD use problems is imperative as such disparities may influence treatment effectiveness. This scoping review aims to understand the extent and type of evidence in relation to mutual-aid groups for AOD use in Asian populations. The scoping review will synthesise study characteristics, explore if the interventions were locally developed or culturally adapted, and examine their associated outcomes. The scoping review has four objectives: 1) to understand the extent and type of empirical studies that have evaluated mutual-aid groups for AOD use in Asian regions, 2) to describe the characteristics of the interventions being evaluated, including the types of AOD use addressed, 3) to explore if the interventions were locally developed or culturally adapted for the region, and 4) to identify key findings captured in East, South and Southeast Asian populations.
