Popis: In this paper some results concerning the optical performance of waveguides formed by dilute melt proton-exchange in Y-cut LiNbO 3 have been presented. The diluted solution were prepared by mixing lithium benzoate with benzoic acid. It was demonstrated that dilute melt proton-exchange in LiNbO 3 produces optical waveguides of good quality and control of melt composition prevents surface damage Y-cut crystals. For the TE modes variation of the refractive index was found to be un ex =0.135 ( λ =632.8 nm).
