Popis: | The laser emission spectrum of the pulsed mercury halide HgCl laser excited in a UV preionised transverse discharge has been investigated. Simultaneous oscillation on many vibrational-rotational lines of the B 2 ∑ + 1 2 − X 2 ∑ + 1 2 transition has been observed from 533.4 to 565.8 nm. Emission lines from the upper B state are assigned to vibrational level v′ = 0 to 12 and to vibrational levels of the lower X state of υ″ = 18 to 32. A new broadband low gain laser emission overlapping the B-X line emission has been observed. Laser performance has been measured over a wide range of excitation and laser gas conditions; an overall efficiency > 0.2% and a volumetric efficiency of 0.75 Jλ-1 has been obtained. Tuning characteristics of the laser emission over the range of oscillation frequencies are reported. |
