Popis: | In this paper we discuss our group work with adolescent girls struggling with bulimia nervosa. We initially began by utilizing a psychoeducational format, but our interest in the work of Michael White and David Epston led us to devise an anti-bulimia group where participants are encouraged to externalize the bulimia, resist its influence in their lives, and empower themselves through recognizing their own competence and resourcefulness in the process of recovery. An additional emphasis was on how the practices of the bulimia are related to broader, sociocultural issues affecting adolescent girls and their relationships to themselves, their bodies, and to others. Group process issues are discussed, and we make recommendations for further work in this area. |
