The superfast half adder is designed with two dimensional photonic crystals. Proposed structure consists of defects such as line, point defect and nanoresonators are created within periodic square lattice made up of silicon rods in air. The photonic band gap of the crystal is being determined by plane wave expansion method. Propagation of light through crystal is studied and the performance parameters of the device are calculated by finite difference time domain method. The travelling of light within structure is due to interference and multiple resonance effect. The designed structure offers increased data rate, contrast ratio and reduced response time |
