This article presents an overview of forensic engineering practice in product liability and industrial accident litigation, with an emphasis on human factors (HFs) and ergonomics issues. The discussion links safety engineering, human factors engineering and regulatory safety programs and briefly reviews litigation concepts such as product defects and foreseeable use. Three cases are used to illustrate home appliance, recreation vehicle, and construction equipment accidents, with HF elements, including risk perception, foreseeable behavior, and induced human error through defective design.
