Popis: In 1965 the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) initiated the All India Coordinated Rice Improvement Project (AICRIP). Its principal aims were to facilitate the free flow of information and breeding material and to organize multilocation testing of improved germplasm across Indian states. AICRIP involves ∼100 research centers belonging to state agricultural universities (SAUs) and a few ICAR institutions at the national level. AICRIP collaborates with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in the collection, evaluation, and use of improved germplasm. The chapter discusses the role of AICRIP as an institutional innovation for accelerating the development of high-yielding varieties and their productivity impacts. It also suggests institutional and policy reforms in the AICRIP system to enable a more efficient network for the future rice development strategy.
