A cryostat is described for the measurement of magnetic susceptibilities at all temperatures from 03 to 20°K in one single experiment. The susceptibility is measured by the a.c. mutual inductance method. The sample, kept cold during the whole experiment, is inside a small glass Dewar immersed in a 4He bath. The measuring coils surround the small Dewar and are also submerged in the 4He bath. Inside the Dewar 3He, 4He and H2 can be separately liquefied by means of the external bath. With the aid of an electrical heater and a carbon thermometer, temperatures between 4 and 14°K can be produced and measured with an overall precision better than 06%. The sample is held so that its position can be adjusted inside the coils or removed completely at any temperature. |
