The effect of intermediate N∗ production on the predicted values for the production cross sections in pA → N∗(1480) A, pA → N∗(1688) A, are calculated as an example of the effects of intermediate resonance states in coherent production from nuclei. It is found that for the expected values of the amplitude for N∗(1480)N → N∗(1688)N, the two step processes play a very small role in these reactions. Abnormally large values of this amplitude will show up in the dependence of the production cross sections on incident momentum and momentum transfer. |
