The diffusion of the deformations in a granular medium was made the object of an approach based on the theory of probability. A load applied on the surface of a granular medium (soil) is supposed to follow a random way between the grains. A law of probability was deduced and an equation of diffusion-convection in terms of vertical displacements in the medium was deduced. The medium is characterised by a coefficient D known as the "diffusion"; it depends on the average diameter of the grains of the medium in question. In the present approach it is not necessary to have Young's Modulus or Poisson's Ratio for the medium. The equation of diffusion of displacements was carried out by using the Finite Element Method. A parametric study was carried out, especially about the coefficient D of diffusion. |
