Popis: | The multiplanar reconstruction option of a commercially available treatment planning system is used to calculate 3D-dose distributions based on up to 40 serial CT slices. The target volume and the organs at risk are encircled and stored as volumes of interest (VoI). The generated three-dimensional dose matrix, the CT and VoI data are transferred via magnetic tape to a visualization system developed at the University Hospital of Hamburg. This system uses a ray casting algorithm based on the generalized voxel-model to display 3D-images of human anatomy together with the calculated dose distributions and the volumes of interest. Different treatment plans with photons for the irradiation of prostate cancer have been calculated. Dose-volume histograms were used to compare different treatment techniques. But for the location of the regions of under- and overdosage the visualization of the dose distribution is necessary. Interactive manipulation of the displayed structures is made possible to improve the critical examination of the calculated dose distribution and to compare the dose distributions of different treatment techniques. |
