Popis: | Since the debate between Heraclites and Parmenides in early Greek philosophy, the relationship between time and eternity has been one of the most problematic issues in philosophy as well as in theology for a long time, and currently it is being raised as a focal point for debate on the understanding of the nature of God’s eternity and its relation to time. The Dutch theologian Berkhof once said that ‘the relationship of eternity to time constitutes one of the most difficult problems in philosophy and theology’ (Berkhof 1988:60). In this article I will analyse this problem within the context of recent developments in theology and philosophy. The interdisciplinary nature of the problem of time makes it imperative to also take into account the developments in the understanding of time in the natural sciences. This is perhaps too ambitious a task for this article and therefore I will limit my focus to only some aspects within the debate. |
