Popis: Kerr type1,2 electro-optical effects have been detected and measured over a range of temperatures in polymethyl-methacrylate (PMMA). The observed birefringence is very much lower than in nitrobenzene, for example. It nonetheless appears possible that the Kerr effect in solid dielectrics may be used to map electric field intensities around electrodes, voids or inclusions in a manner similar to that in liquid Kerr cells.3–5
