Popis: Encoding the variability of decision-irrelevant stimuli affects confidence. Spence et al. (2018) administered a dot motion-or-brightness discrimination task, where participants were naïve as to which judgment was to be performed until only after the stimulus had been displayed. Increased motion variability decreased confidence in brightness judgments and vice versa, implying an uncertainty transfer between motion and brightness evidence. Curiously, when the evidence sources were separated such that each dot conveyed either only motion or only brightness information, this uncertainty transfer disappeared. We aim to explore this effect.
