Popis: | Reference is made to a publication by Ryan STAJ. Chem. Thermodynamics 5:153 (1973)! and to previous publications by the present authors STALeary et al., Symposium on Thermodynamics with Emphasis on Nuclear Materials and Atomic Transport in Solids, Vol. 1, International Atomic Energy Agency: Vienna. 1966, page 459; and Mullins et al., J. Inorg. Nucl. Chem. 30: 147 (1968)! concerning the valency of Am in molten salt systems. It is stated that the earlier conclusions were based on the stoichiometry of the reaction, not on thermochemical reasoning. The matter has been reviewed and reasons are given for concluding that the original interpretation, that the americium in the salt phase is preponderantly divalent, was correct. (UK) |
