A grass-lined open channel was subjected to a constant discharge flow for a period of approximately five weeks with flow depth and velocity monitored periodically. The flow was then terminated and the recovery of the failed area monitored over the following two growing seasons. Results of the test suggest that flow durations in excess of the inundation tolerance of the grasses can generate an immediate deterioration in the lining quality and that a period of years may be required for natural recovery. |
