Renewable energies are essential for maintaining the correct balance of the factors that define the electric system because they provide it with the necessary sustainability (clean, reduced emissions) and self-sufficiency capacity, and all this without affecting the other two factors involved: competitiveness, and a safe guaranteed supply. Nowadays, wind and photovoltaic renewable energies have considerably developed, which allows them to be competitive with market prices. Nonetheless, the mistakes made in planning the Spanish electric system have led to some consequences, which make these renewable energies criminal given the enormous cost of premiums, as the price of energy has gone up and the system has a huge deficit, which are completely unsustainable today. In this article we simulate the electric system, without including renewable energies, to compare and assess the positive effects that all four factors have; guaranteed quality supply, sustainability (clean, reduced emissions), competitiveness (affordable price) and self-sufficiency; during the 2000–2014 period. We also economically quantify the benefits of including renewable energies in our electric system to verify how they will compensate largely the amount of premiums for renewables. |
