Sorption of heavy metals (iron, zinc, copper) from surface waters by natural and granular glauconite of the Karinsky deposit was studied under dynamic conditions. It was shown that the mechanical strength acquired by natural glauconite as a result of granulation allowed significant increasing filtration capacity of the material and resource of the modeled filter. The exchange capacity of granulated glauconite was equal or exceeded than that of the natural mineral for all studied cations. The sorption characteristics of granulated glauconite allow using it in drinking water treatment schemes for purification of natural waters from heavy metals, while maintaining the pH and hardness values within the limits of the standard for drinking water set by the regulatory norms. |
