Popis: The energy spread of the photon line produced by annihilation of 15-MeV positrons in a thin LiH target has been measured. Positrons are produced by bombarding a Ta target with 10-MeV electrons from a linear accelerator. The positrons are accelerated energy-analyzed with a bending magnet-slit assembly. The photon line width measurement was made by counting the number of photons elastically scattered from the 15.11-MeV level of C12 as a function of positron energy setting. The annihilation photon line was found to have a full width at half maximum of 0.45±0.05 MeV. An annihilation photon energy spectrum was calculated and found to be in agreement with experimental results.
