Popis: | The occurrence of opiate overdoses, which result in death and disability, has increased dramatically over the past 15 years. The vast majority of these overdoses have occurred with the use of prescription opioids and benzodiazepines. The population of people suffering from chronic pain is estimated to be over 100 million and a large number of these individuals are prescribed opioids. A large population of individuals with the dual problem of addiction and chronic pain has emerged, presenting a significant challenge to the healthcare system. This population is complex, fragile, and requires a complexity of approaches, which take into account the complicated problems of pharmacology, genetics, physical pathology, co-morbid issues, emotions, and behavior. |
