Novel spatial light modulators (SLMs) using ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) and amorphous silicon (a-Si) are proposed. A novel FLC-SLM enables real-time optical-data processing by applying high-frequency voltage, which the FLC cannot follow, to the device. Two-dimensional array operation has been realized using this FLC-SLM. Furthermore, a doping charge-transfer complex (CTC) to the FLC is effective for improvement of device properties. The device considered has excellent characteristics, as follows: response time of 185 mu s, contrast ratio of 16:1, and spatial resolution of 11 lp/mm (V=+or-10 V, f=200 kHz); and the input image was memorized for more than a week. > |
