Popis: Site 50-80-15-4522, subsurface archaeological site comprised of six strata, was identified during archaeological monitoring and subsurface testing at the proposed Mini-Putt Golf Course, Project KNMD, Bellows Air Force Station Waimanalo ahupua'a, Ko'olaupoko District, Island of O'ahu, Hawaii. Four radiocarbon samples taken from Layer IV, the uppermost stratum, yielded radiocarbon age ranges between A.D. 1259 and A.D. 1681. The buried site, located in the southwest sector of the project area, is interpreted as being an intermittently occupied back-dune encampment. The site was likely a staging area for coastal and marine zone exploitation. The remainder of the area was disturbed by various sequences of military related activity. The site has the potential to yield information regarding changes in the economy and settlement pattern of the area. It is recommended that the site be avoided during future development of the area.
