Cyclicality of hospital admissions and emergency department visits

Popis:	Methods of cyclic analysis were developed and applied to the data on the number of daily hospital admissions to LAC/USC Medical Center and to the number of patients seen daily on each of the three shifts for the main admitting room area. A seven-day cycle was found in the number of admissions and in the number of patients seen from 4:00 PM to 12 midnight and 12 midnight to 8:00 AM with a high occurring on Monday and Tuesday and a low occurring on Saturday and Sunday. The results have been utilized to adjust staffing and resources to meet changing patient loads.
