The thermodynamics of ϵ-caprolactone, its polymer and of ε-caprolactone polymerization in the 0–350°K range

Popis: The heat content, C ° p , of ϵ-caprolactone (CL) and of its polymer (PCL) were determined between 13·8–350°K within 0·3% error limits. The temperatures and the enthalpies of their transitions were also investigated. The values of H °( T ), S °( T ), and G °( T ) as functions of H °(0) were calculated for the 0–350°K range. S ° c , S conf ∗ and T 2 for PCL in the glass-like state were estimated, and also the H ° c (0)- H ° cr (0). The enthalpy of CL bulk polymerization was determined by calorimetry and the results used to calculate the thermodynamics of the process CL → PCL, the ΔH ° p , ΔS ° p and ΔG ° p between 0 and 350°K; the thermodynamic limits of the process were established.
