Popis: Femoral veins are the second most common location for central line placement after internal jugular veins. As with subclavian and internal jugular central lines, ultrasound is a useful tool to correctly identifying the femoral vein. The femoral vein can be challenging to identify using anatomic landmarks particularly in patients with obese body habitus. Ultrasound guidance can help reduce the risk of nerve injury and hematoma from accidental puncture of surrounding neurovascular structures. However, ultrasound is not always available, so it is important for an anesthesiologist to know how to place femoral lines without ultrasound guidance.
