Popis: | The effects of maize-derived compounds, DIMBOA (2,4-dihydroxy-7-methoxy-1,4-benzoxazin-3-one) and MBOA (6-methoxybenzoxazolinone), on detoxification enzymes of the European corn borer, Ostrinia nubilalis (Hubner), were examined. In vitro , DIMBOA increased NADH-cytochrome c reductase and NADH oxidase activities and did not affect N -demethylase, O -demethylase, or glutathione S -transferase activities. Corn borers fed on a diet with DIMBOA increased levels of cytochrome b 5 , NADPH-cytochrome c reductase, NADH-cytochrome c reductase, NADH oxidase, and O -demethylase activities compared to those corn borers fed on a meridic diet. There was no difference in N -demethylase activities between DIMBOA-fed and meridic diet-fed corn borers. MBOA in the corn borer diet increased levels of cytochrome b 5 , NADH-cytochrome c reductase, and glutathione S -transferase activities; decreased N -demethylase activity; and had no effect on the level of cytochrome P450 or on O -demethylase, NADH oxidase, or NADPH-cytochrome c reductase activities of the corn borers. |
