Transient measurements of dealignment relaxation of laser excited CO2

Popis: Low pressure CO 2 gas is subjected to polarized CO 2 laser pulses. The distribution of the magnetic sublevels of the rotational excited state is non thermal. The thermalization of the initial system is observed by detecting the 4.3 μ fluorescence emissions at two directions, parallel and perpendicular to the laser polarization field. The dealignment rate constant has been found to be: (3.0 ± 1) × 10 7 s −1 torr −1 .
