In this investigation, an emission study was performed in a variable compression ratio (VCR) naturally aspirated direct injection CI engine fuelled with blends of 5-carbon alcohol, rubber seed biodiesel and diesel. Experiments were conducted using different test fuels like R5P5, R10P10 and R15P15 and with varying the compression ratio (CR) viz.16: 1, 17.5: 1, 19: 1. The test results were analyzed and compared with standard fuels. The investigation result proves that CR at 17.5 reveals best outcome for the entire test blends. It was found that concurrent reduction of CO by 33.3% and HC emissions by 30.35% can be achieved using the R10P10 combined biodiesel with a petite augment in NOx (↑2.5%). It was concluded that R10P10 blend at CR of 17.5 emits lesser emission and can be an environmental friendly alternative. |
