Popis: | How have been the processes of growth and expansion of the metropolises in Mexico? The Metropolitan Areas of Mexico City, Puebla and Veracruz, constitute significant studies case, that they presented since the seventies of the twentieth century dynamics of accelerated growth and physical expansion and important urban transformations that turned them into metropolises of different sizes, product of socioeconomic conditions in the country and specific for each case, in which, however, it is possible to find similarities between them, in order to establish models and general conclusions to explain their processes of growth and territorial formation. The analysis of growth and expansion forms is based on two categories of analysis: size and dynamics of growth and urban form in the period between 1970 and 2010. Emphasis was given to the forms of expansion adopted, their degree of dispersion and fragmentation, from forces that generate texture, focus and accessibility systems. In the analyzed period of 40 years and for the selected Mexican cities, trends are indicated, such as: continuous urban expansion and spatial fragmentation, without forces or natural elements that contain them. The phenomenon of spatial growth, being much faster than population growth, leads to a decrease in the population density of metropolitan areas with the large-scale destruction of agriculture and environmental resources. Despite the structural changes that have occurred in recent years, it seems that, in terms of urban expansion and its adopted forms, there are no indications that point to a less turbulent and more balanced urban development. |
