Popis: This chapter describes about the antistatic precautions in the operating theatre. Static electricity is a hazard in the operating theatre so long as inflammable gases, such as cyclopropane and ether, are used as anesthetics. Basically no materials that generate electricity should be allowed into the operating theatre. All personnel should wear anti-static footwear. Any rubber sheeting used in table fitments, covers, and pillows should be of the anti-static variety. Woolen blankets and many man-made fibers are most dangerous and should not be allowed in the operating theatre. Cotton is a most suitable material and, therefore, the over-garments of the theatre personnel should be made of this. Skin cleaning materials containing spirit are to be discouraged. A regular inspection and maintenance program is also essential. A special store for the inflammable gases should be positioned well away from the high risk area. Humidity in the theatre should be maintained at 50%–55%.Theatre personnel must be constantly aware of the dangers of static electricity.
