Popis: 67Gallium shows a tendency to be accumulated in malignant tumors. However, the incorporation of this radioactive nuclide occurs also in acute or chronically inflammable processes (silicosis, tuberculosis). The critical organ is the liver. The absorbed dose in the liver is app. 1.3 rad. The accumulation in the tumor or lymph- nodes can be measured optimally after 4–6 days, since by this time the interfering activity of the liver and intestine has worn off to a great extent. 67Ga scans of malignant lymphoma in the abdomen are of considerably limited diagnostic value because of the superposition of the liver and intestinal activity. The mediastinum, however, which is not so easily accessible by X-ray, represents a suitable object for 67Ga scans. This was shown in 20 cases of malignant lymphoma in the mediastinum; 16 of these cases showed a 67Ga accumulation. In some cases the scan becomes positive prior to the radiograph.
