This chapter describes how staff work with children and their families to capture 'the voice of the child' from initial home visit, transition into the setting and throughout the child's time in the setting. It describes how the authors plan for children and use documentation to acknowledge the voice of the child. In the Centre, all staff are committed to getting to know children and their families. All children are visited in their homes prior to starting in the setting. This allows the Family Worker to get to know the child in their home context. Family Workers make contact with the family to introduce themselves and arrange a home visit at a time that is convenient for the child's parents. The Family Worker tries to gather information about who lives in the house and their relationship to the child. When a child is starting in the setting, Family Workers gather information about how the child likes to be comforted. |
