Popis: | Employing electron spectrometry in conjunction with third generation synchrotron radiation (SR), we present a short overview of the 2p photoelectron spectroscopy of free 3d transition metal atoms. In particular, this paper will focus on the late transition metals from Cr to Cu and a comparison of the free atoms to several compound systems. The atomic experimental spectra are compared to theoretical spectra based on Hartree-Fock (HF) and configuration interaction (CI) calculations. In general a good agreement between experiment and theory is found already for single configuration HF calculations and the observed satellites in the atomic 2p photoelectron spectra (PES) can be attributed to a recoupled 3d valence shell. However, for Ni mixing of several configurations in the final state have to be taken into account. |
