Popis: | AIM: Aim of the study was to evaluate the diagnostic potential of the vacuum-assisted biopsy system (VF) Coramate® with a new technique (cutting helix) in clinical routine. METHOD: Between 10/2006 and 3/2007 the new sonography-guided vacuum-assisted system Coramate® was used to obtain biopsies from 133 patients with a BI-RADS™ 5 lesion. Age range of the patients was 24 - 74 years (median: 56 years), lesion sizes ranged from 5 - 63 mm (median: 19 mm). 1 - 3 specimens were taken from each lesion. RESULTS: Malignancy was confirmed in 132 of the 133 lesions (98 %). 1 lesion (2 %) was classified as a DCIS; final histological examination following breast-conserving therapy confirmed an invasive ductal breast carcinoma. CONCLUSION: The new vacuum-assisted device Coramate® with its new technique is a technically mature diagnostic method. Particularly in view of the costs it is comparable with high-speed core-cut biopsies, the handheld Mammotome®, the Vacora® system and open surgical diagnostic biopsies. |
