Popis: Chemical composition of water in water bodies is an important factor affecting humans’ health. This work focuses on the determination of chemical pollutants (iron, calcium, magnesium, nitrate, nitrite, chloride, sulfate, oil products and pH value) in samples of river waters before and after release of wastewater in and near Yekaterinburg city. It was shown that all tested samples had concentrations of chloride, magnesium and calcium lower than maximal allowed limits; in addition pH of water samples and concentration of sulfate were mainly within the acceptable limits or showed insignificant deviations. Among the most problematic indicators of water quality, there were iron, ammonium and nitrite. It was suggested that contamination of water by iron and nitrite is conditioned by mainly natural processes, whereas presence of ammonium and oil products can be explained by anthropogenic sources.
