Popis:	Summary Non-viable Coxiella burneti in Phase 2 is highly susceptible to phagocytosis in vitro by human polymorphonuclear leukocytes in isologous serum derived from non-immune subjects. In the same non-immune system, non-viable C. burneti in Phase 1 is significantly more resistant to phagocytosis. Phagocytosis of Phase 1, but not Phase 2, C. burneti, is markedly enhanced by serum derived from human subjects convalescent from clinical Q fever. A soluble dimethylsulfoxide extract of Phase 1 C. burneti, containing Phase 1 antigen, neutralizes the opsonic action of convalescent serum.
