Popis:	Substituted pyrrolo[1,2-a]imidazoles and imidazo[1,2-a]imidazoles are prepared in a simple one pot reaction sequence from esters of heterocyclic or aromatic α-amino acids. The reaction involves condensation with acetoine followed by cyclization with either malonodinitrile, ethyl cyanoacetate or cyanamide.
