Popis: Environmental fates of aldrin and DDT, insecticides banned by the United States E.P.A., were compared with those of fonofos and methoxychlor in a newly developed laboratory terrestrial model ecosystem. DDT residues were greater than those of methoxychlor in all invertebrate and vertebrate animals examined. The persistence of the two was about the same on corn, and their translocations to vermiculite were similar. Volatilization of both was minimal compared to aldrin and fonofos. Aldrin residues were larger than those of fonofos in the vole, the corn, and the vermiculite. The system effectively differentiated the environmentally hazardous from the non‐hazardous insecticides.
