On the collapse of a spherically symmetric star

Popis: The initial value problem for a compact, spherically symmetric star with a rather general equation of state is discussed. For any given time it is possible to calculate the area of the spheres of symmetry which intersect the boundary, if space–time is C5 and the initial energy density is smooth (i.e., C∞) and satisfies some minor technical conditions. The physical relevance of this result is also discussed.
