In modern Tokamaks a precise control of the plasma column inside the toroidal chamber is a key issue affecting the overall performances of the experiment. The ITER machine carries a strong innovation in technology and constitutes an ambitious extrapolation from similar existing machines; therefore accurate and extensive simulation of the machine behaviour is necessary to obtain a reliable design of the plasma magnetic configuration control system. Nonlinear simulations with numerical codes constitutes the finest available tool to analyse the control system performances and refine its design. In this paper the methodology used in such analysis is presented along with specific results on the present design of ITER-FEAT. |
