The scattering of high-energy electrons by 27Al

Popis: Measurementsare reported of the cross section for elastic and inelastic scattering of high-energy electrons by the nucleus 27 Al. The elastic scattering is fitted well by a phase-shift calculation for a static charge density with parameters c = 3.07 fm and t = 2.28 fm. The contribution to the cross section arising from the non-spherical character of this nucleus has been examined, and the quadrupole moment obtained is in good agreement with the spectroscopic value Q = 0.15 b. The inelastic cross sections are analysed by expressions derived in first Born approximation, and the analysis leads to measurements on a number of levels of 27 Al.
