Magnetic Properties of Intercalation Compound: Mn1/4MX2

Popis: The Mn-intercalated transition metal dichalcogenides Mn 1/4 NbS 2 and Mn 1/4 TaS 2 have been found to be easy-plane type ferromagnets from the magnetization curves, while the magnetization curve of Mn 1/4 NbSe 2 shows a spin flopping behavior, suggesting a helical spin structure along the c -axis. The valency of Mn ion is nearly divalent from the measurements of Hall coefficient and Curie-Weiss magnetic susceptibility. The saturation magnetization is, however, 3.7–4.1 µ B /Mn. Reduction of the magnetic moment from an expected value of 5 µ B /Mn for a Mn 2+ ion may be probably due to the Mn–Mn exchange interaction through the RKKY interaction.
